Hi,

This is the message I received in the server busy window:

This action cannot be completed because the other program is busy.Click the appropriate button on the task bar to activate the busy program and correct the problem.

But it does'nt said wich program is busy and wich button on the task bar to click. This message appear in every applications online or offline and everyday for about a week now.
I try to close that server busy window by clicking the X but it refused to close. So I try the retry button it offer but it keep bringing back the same window.I also close all applications but the window remain. So I shut down windows sometimes it shut down fine, sometimes I have to click on end task because another program is busy windows cannot shut down and sometime windows freeze completely I have to cold boot.

I have windows 98 SE,64 MB SDRAM,15 GB Hard Drive,667 MHZ Intel Cenleron,16 programs running at starup.Physical memory available 63,924 KB,system resources 76% free, just reinstall windows 2 weeks ago.Any help would be appreciated if you need more informations let me know thanks in advanced.

16 programs running at startup? This is a bit much for 64megs of RAM. I would suggest taking some of the unneeded programs out of startup first. Go to C:\Windows\Start Menu\Start Up. Take out what is not really needed. You might try just moving these programs one at a time to a different folder until you find the culprit.

16 programs running at startup?Do you really need all of those to run?Try turning non essentials off and maybe this will cut down on the activity when you boot up.

Julie: Digital Dashboard, Country selection, all 3 Vets,Hidserv, cpqinet, EAclean and cpqnet can probably be eliminated for Startup UNLESS one of those is your antivirus program (I can't tell from that list--it's not Norton). Doesn't mean that you disable them, just find the shortcuts to the .exe for each one on your hard drive and create shortcuts for them---run them when you need to. As far as Task Monitor goes, if you actually have it programmed to do something that you otherwise would never do, such as backups, scandisks, etc, then disable that too. Be careful about what you install that runs in the System Tray--usually means that it's consuming resources, and oftentimes can be switched from Load At Startup to a shortcut on your desktop.

Julie,
You can turn off numbers 5 thru 12. The others are for your Compaq Internet Keyboard and should probably leave them alone.

To whoever needed this information,

You cannot uncheck country selection & PTSNOOP it will duplicate with a check mark on it when you restart the computer. To fix this simply put check mark on both and the duplicate will remove when computer restart. If you turn off Hidserv it will kill the volume control & mute button on the keyboard.CPQINET,EACLEAN,CPQEASYACC are for your COMPAQ internet keyboard you need all the 3 to function properly. The rest can be turn off as suggested.

I found this thread using the Copernic search engine (looking for DXM6PATCH), and it has answered most of my questions. A remaining one is basic: what of the following uses computing resources:
1 Shortcut on desktop
2 Shortcut in the upper part of the Start menu
3 Icon in the tray at bottom right
4 Icon in the tray at bottom left
5 The Office startup bar, usually upper right
6 Anything listed in Run and RunOnce in Registry
7 Anything listed in Startup
8 Anything listed in MSConfig/Startup
9 Something I am not aware of.

I suspect all but 1. above use resources, but would appreciate having that confirmed.

A tip for anyone who wants to get rid of shortcuts: I minimize navigating in Start by grouping all of my programs into five categories (Applications, Microsoft, Games, Reference, Internet, Utilities). The next step is to move the launch icon into it's appropriate category. That way you are only one submenu away from launching the program using the Start button. If you want to figure out how to automatically alphabetize those entries, go to www.regedit.com and look for instructions on Order the Menu.
Hope my contribution makes up for my somewhat basic question.

Regards,

Mac
