HELLO THERE...
i was having problems at first with the dvd
rom drive which was only detecting cd music discs but it was very slow loading, and would not detect dvd discs,i tried a new dvd driver which is samsung sd-608,which is the original driver for this and did not make any difference,i did not download any firmware...
the last thought i had was to shut down the computer take the back off, and when i disconnected the usb power cable internally from the dvd drive there's actually two, i restarted the computer and it started ok so i shut it back down and connected the cables back to the way they were. restarted pc after all cables were fully connected and the computer started but the monitor did not come on and the green light from the hard disk would stay steady on green, there is no action from the computer whatsoever. i thought this action would help as i got the tip from a website. ANY INFO ON THIS WILL BE SERIOUSLY HELPFULL...
thank's to anyone that help's on this one...
coly...

Check your drive cables and ensure that all are connected properly - the coloured wire goes to 'pin1' on the drive and on the motherboard. A reversed cable might explain the constant drive light.

It's not clear - is the DVD still connected? Try disconnecting it and see if you can start normally.

I'm with jboy on this. (As usual...)

Start with basic hardware troubleshooting techniques. Eliminate the hardware possibilities first. Ensure your monitor, drive, etc. connections are OK.

It's easy to do, and can cause your machine to appear 'dead'

If that's not it then try the simplify by elimination troubleshooting method.

Well, if the DVD is still connected, disconnect it and see if you can start.

If no change, disconnect the hard drive and see if you can get the initial POST screen on the monitor.

Do you have DVD player software such as powerDVD installed? I've noticed people sometimes don't realize they need it in order to play DVDs. That may have been the reason for your initial problem.

The DVD driver you installed was probably just a dos cdrom driver that is unnecessary.

As to the new problems, as mentioned by Dan and jboy, check that the hardware is correctly connected. You may want to reseat the memory and cpu. Make sure all the cards are firmly inserted.

Jboy, I was going to use the Ray Stevens song reference when I saw that thread yesterday but you beat me to it!
