Could anybody tell me how to fix this problem:
This machine is using a serial mouse. I have to re-install the serial mouse drivers every time I boot this machine.
Thanks
Robert

Which drivers are you using? If this is a two-button serial mouse, you should be able to use the (Standard Mouse Types), Standard Serial Mouse driver that comes with Windows.

Shouldn't have to install anything - Windows support for basic mouse types is automatic.
Did this problem develop recently, or is this a new installation of Windows that has always been like this?
Might check in Device Manager and see what's listed for the mouse - if there are duplicate entries, remove those.
From a DOS start you could try
scanreg /fix
to see if repairing the registry helps. If your machine was ok at one time, you could try
scanreg /restore
to rollback the registry to a time when all was well.

Yes, I am using a Serial Mouse with two buttons. The drivers installed are the one that come with Winodws 98 SE but still same problem!

Already tried scanre /fix...did not fix it!
This is a machien that was given to me last week. I got this serial mouse problem ever since I booted up the machine for the first time. Thanks guy for your quick answers

Are you getting errors on bootup?
If so, what are they?
How (method) are you re-installing the drivers?

I suspect that someone installed the wrong driver. Try the following to install the standard serial driver.
Go to the Device Manager > select the mouse > Properties > Driver tab > Update driver > Next > Display a list of the drivers in a specific location ... > Show all hardware > select `Standard mouse types > on the right side select `Standard serial mouse' and continue on to install it.

I get no errors at boot up. To use the mouse I have to go to Device Manager+remove mouse+re-start computer then the mouse is detected and installed properly antil next time I do a cold boot.
Before I remove the mouse from Device Manager there are no exclamation\"X" marks on the mouse. Everthing looks fine but the mouse does not work.

SERIAL MOUSE WORKING FINE NOW!
I re-installed the mouse drivers using the standard serial mouse drivers that come with Windows 98.Thanks to all of your for your great help!
