Recently I had problems going omline and reinstalled IE61.Now all is working fine except when I click on the E icon,it brings up an internet explorer page.(address: search.msn.com)My settings in control panel/internet options/home page aren't changed-I even downloaded StartPage Guard but it doesn't stop this hijacking by msn.Could someone tell me how to fix this please?

In Internet options did you try hitting the Use Default button underneath the entry?

MSN is the default home page for IE6. To change your home page, first bring up your home page then click tools> internet options> use current.

Yes, of-course, you are quite right. Somehow I misread that button as "Use as Default". I must take more water with it.

I don't know what start page guard is but I would GUESS that is what is stopping you from changing your home page.

I find that helping here makes me think how I do something rather than just doing it. Sometimes even when we know how to do something we don't quite get the directions perfect. I have been impatient with someone here about sthier floppy seeking a disk at boot up. I told them twice to disable the floppy in the boot secquence. I should have told them to disable "boot up floppy seek". So I fully understand.

OTHEHILL I downloaded StartPage Guard after this prob, thinking it might help. But you've set me to thinking maybe I should just get rid of it and see what happens next.I'm not impressed with it anyway-it don't work for me..thnx all

Maybe a homepage hijacker? Run something like adaware and see if it finds a problem.

The poster reinstalled IE6. This automatically set MSN as the home page. The poster then installed some program that prevents the homepage from being changed, thereby LOCKING it to MSN. Uninstall the offending program.

This is a work around, but should serve you well. Type in the URL of your real home page and go there.
Once there, Select favorites, and save it.
Reopen favorites, find your home page. Right click on it's icon and select create a shortcut on your desktop. You'll have 2 icons on your desktop, one being your homepage icon. Just select it instead of your I.E. default icon.

Just trying
