I'm having a problem with searching from the address bar. I am only being able to use MSN when searching from the address bar or when I use the search function. When I click on customize there is not a list to choose from even if I check "use search assistant" I have already tried an internet explorer repair from add and remove programs I would like to only use google from the the address bar. Even checking that does not work. Any body know how to fix this problem?

Dunno, never use that stuff.

Here's any easy way to get Google handy in IE:-

Go to Google, Add to Favorites in "Links" folder.

In the top bar of IE a button will appear which takes you straight to Google. If there are already various buttons against Links, then follow right to the double arrow and pull Google somewhere into mid screen.

Copy the following into Notepad and name it IEG00GL.reg;
________________________________________________________
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main]
"Search Page"="http://www.google.com"
"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL]
""="http://www.google.com/keyword/%s"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search]
"SearchAssistant"="http://www.google.com/ie"

_______________________________________________________________

Then click on it and choose Merge.

It's a good day when you learn something

While you are waiting for Dan to check it over, make sure you have either one or two line spaces after the very last line (no more than two). You can see where you stand by clicking the mouse at the bottom right of the NotePad screen and seeing where the cursor lands.

To me the Links button seems the easiest way to go. With one single click of the button you go to Google and no registry tricks are required.

Yes, as Derek says, and just the stuff between the lines: the first line is REGEDIT4
