Comment:

have developed a couple of problems with my Screen Saver. I'm running Win98 SE. I use a password in the screen saver so thatwhen the SS activates, you must enter a password to use the computer.

1-For the last week, sometimes I'll come to the computer and enter my password and it won't work! I have to reboot the computer....then the password works again.
2-I uncheck the pass word box in the screen saver tab but it still asks for a password.

I think something got corrupted......
Any idea what is going on?
Thanks...Howie

Have you done the normal checks? Scan Disk, and virus check are suggested. If this is a third party application try uninstalling and a fresh reinstall. If it is windows Plus edition I would not be surprised, the program has always been a little buggy. I removed mine sometime ago as I got too many hangups and freezes with it. There are a few Microsoft articles on it, I will check on.

I did a little checking and here are some recommendations from Annoyance site.

1. too many programs open at the same time.
2. hidden apps in the background (firewall, APM, are examples).
3. one or more of your apps is hogging resources.
4. lack of periodic maintenance (scandisk, defrag).
5. missing some critical updates from Windows Update.
6. temp folders are full of files.

some things to try;

* an online diagnostic check at:
http://www.pcpitstop.com
use the Help mode feature to save time.

*open the Disk Cleanup Utility from Accessories, System Tools, to clean out the temporary
files on your computer.

*run the Version Conflict Manager;
click Start, Run, type: vcmui
and press the Enter key.

Thanks for the help!

OK...I do scan disk and defrag very often.
I use winPlus but have been doing so for 2 years. Never had an issue.

I think that one of my files might have gotten corrupted.
Just not sure which one!

I'll do some checking....Howie
