Comment:
I just reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled win 98se. However, now I cannot change the screen resolution to more pixels. the slide bar in inactive. What can I do? do I have to get a new monitor driver? What is a "display adapter"?

The Windows 98 program should ask you if you want to select new drivers for your screen. Tell it yes. It will search for a driver from the WIN98 disk or it will let you select from a choice if you select 'I will select my own drivers'. They should be there. If this does not solve your problem, come back and post more information as to what kind of Monitor and Computer you are using.

Check 'display adapter' in device manager in system in control panel. How is it identified?
There's a good chance that your windows cd didn't have the correct drivers so windows installed something generic. In that case you'd need to locate the correct drivers yourself, either from the video card manufacturer or, if it's onboard, from the motherboard manufacturer's site.
