Screen Resolution Doesn't Stay

Hello All... I have a problem with with my screen resolution, which I like to keep at 1024x768 with 32 (or 16) bit color. Everytime I have to shutdown (because of crashes, etc.) my PC starts up with 640x480 and 256 colors. This is very annoying and I can't seem to figure out why this is happening and how to alleviate this problem, as I don't get any messages to tell me that this is going to happen. I am running Win98SE and I have an NVidia Riva TNT 2 Pro video card. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible that this problem occurs when you try to play a specific game that perhaps automatically changes your resolution to the 640x480 so when it crashes that was the last setting. I suspect the crashes are related to whatever it is you are trying to run and the conflict is a result of the change in resolution. There is a setting to allow resolution changes without restarting the computer. Look in control panel/display/settings/advanced settings
