screen problems after win98 loads

I have an old computer and i'm getting this very weird problem. I start the computer and everything is fine, it shows the win98 screen with the logo good too and right after when your desktop loads up the screen gets messed and you can't tell anything apart. I can still see the windows popping up when I press ctrl-alt-delete and i can also see the start menu but everything is so blurred and shaky that you can't tell anything apart. This always happens right after the windows logo is gone and the desktop starts. I have no idea how to fix this problem. It is not the monitor because i tried it on another computer and it worked fine. If anyone knows how to fix this problem i would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Can you start the PC in safe mode?
when booting try hitting the the f8, or delete there are a few more depending on the model. you'll then get the the win98 startup option.
choose 3 for safe mode
If this seems to work ok then right click on the desktop and go to properties. then go to settings and see what you have set as the colour quality.
If its 24 high colour or true colour try dropping this to one of the lowest options. click on ok then reboot. If this works then try upgrading the graphics card driver.

I doubt it's the color settings. Could be the resolution--screen area--is set too high. Check that also in safe mode
