I'm very sorry to post again, right after entering my post yesterday I was called away on an emergency,so unable to answer questions helpful people were asking. I hope you'll forgive me & allow me to post again. I've added some info to answer what some queried. Thank you.
I bought a digital camera and now I'm trying to print out decent copies. I've tried several programs to help me lay them out for printing and what I seem to get a lot is a pop up box telling me my computer is set on 16 bit color and it needs to be minimum of 24, if not 32. Trouble is I've tried this in the past and if I have it on anything higher than 16 scrolling is awful, very jerky and painful on the eye. I would like to have it higher as I've never been quite satisfied with the look of some wallpapers. I've tried smooth scrolling on and off, makes no difference.
I used to be on Windows 95 and I'm pretty sure I had it on a higher setting and it was OK. I upgraded to W98SE, and RAM from 32 to 160. I have the latest drivers available for my Rage II+ display card. I can't see that being the problem as I used to have it higher, with this latest driver too. (The whole system is just over four years old.)
I'm running an IBM Aptiva E46; AMD K6 @ 266; my monitor is 19" and at 800 x 600. I've tried altering the resolution too, I don't know if that is helpful to this, but when I click on a higher one the color menu automatically reverts back to a lower color, 256. The resolution thingy stumps me because I make it higher and everything on the screen goes smaller!!! I just don't get it.
If anyone has any hints or tips to improve the scroll so I can have the display at 24 at lest, I'd be VERY grateful. Please try to keep it simple, I'm still a dummy when it gets techy:O)
Thanks very much.

im only 17, and work in a computer in dept, we have had the same problem as you have here. what i done was downloaded more video drivers, from drdriver.com and driverheaven.com, i also got something called a Intel(R) Graphics Controller which enables me to go from 16bit to 32bit and true colours with a click of the mouse.

my suggestion is that you download the latest driver, and then see if u can find this graphics controller somewhere and install it, and see if this helps.

i may only be 17, but i been working with computers since i was 12! lol

Graeme's advice sounds pretty good to me. Make sure that you have the correct driver for your card and it's for Win98SE.

Thanks for the advice. I had checked and double checked and I checked again today. My driver is the latest available for this card by the makers. It's for both 95 and 98, according to their page.
