I'd try this...after pasting the screencapture into Paint, save the image, then select Image/Stretch-Skew (Ctl+W is the keyboard shortcut) and under the "Stretch" field I'd try putting in 50% for both horizontal and vertical. This should reduce the size of the capture (though you may lose pic quality). You can play around with the number till its the way you want it. (If it doesn't come out the way you want, undo by hitting Ctl+Z and try a different percentage).
Good luck.

In Paint go to File, Page Setup and select Landscape and then Fit to 1 by 1 page. Then look at Print Preview.
(I'm looking at Paint in WinXP so you may see Fit to Page versus Fit to 1 by 1 but do Lanscape.)

Also be aware of that if what you are trying to capture is NOT the entire desktop but an open window on the desktop then you can use Alt+Print Screen to capture just the open window.

I just hit printScrn, then go to paint, then hold control and hit V. That should put the image into paint and from there you can resize it.
Hopefully my advice will help you...Please post back with your results....thanks

"...from there you can resize it."
The versions of MS Paint on my PCs do not have "Resize".
Which version are you using that has "Resize" as an option?
Bryan

I've never had Paint or Clipboard say a screen shot was too large. I can always capture the entire desktop with Print Screen.
However, as of late, I started using Xshot. A freeware capture program with the option of outlining a custom size area. Maybe it will be of benefit to you. Freeware.

Just a note:
Once you have an image in Paint, you can grab either the corners or the small cirles on the sides and adjust the picture for size. With a little practice, grabbing the corner and going diagonally will preserve the height to width ratio.
sekirt

I just tried sekirt's suggestion and played with Paint - I never knew you could resize the image to new heights...
i_XpUser

My Screen resolution is 1024x768.
When pasted into Paint it is much larger than the viewable pallette size.If I grab the corner to resize it; the image size changes but the pallette remains large. Going to Print Preview shows the image on the pallette.
I have used the Sekirt method to resize the pallette on an image that is small and I want to add a text box below the image so that it looks like a Polaroid picture adding the text in the white box below the image.
This desktop screenshot appears unreadable because it distorts the text within the image whereas the 'Page setup' does not.
Page setup resizes the pallette containing the image and the text is still readable.I do not mean to argue which method is better. Each method is good for one application or another. For this poster I think the Page setup method to be the way to go, keeping it easy, unless Alt+Print screen is what the poster really wanted.
Expressing my opinion,
Bryan

I think I agree with you Bryan. Mine is only 800 x 600. I threw out the Paint resizing, just to offer anything that might help. Either the screen shot has to be selective, therefore smaller or the adjustment has to be landscape or maybe larger paper, etc; Without further information, sounds like page setup is the preferred way.
Forgot to mention the all-time favorite graphic program, which also does screen shots. And can save them in several formats and can resize plus a lot more. Irfan. Freeware.
Of course, if this is a web page or something, just print from Internet Explorer without a screen shot. I don't use Mozilla Firefox, but I heard it will print to size and nothing gets chopped off.
OK...noterom...a forum is interactive, let us know if any of this works for you.

We are having fun without him/her.So true that having the full info eliminates the guess work.

IrfanView had been previously suggested - quite recently in fact

Heh - it really should be, it's a whizzbang of a viewer/player/editor. There are better ones (maybe) - but not for the price.
