Hello and thanks for reading this, I have bought a 1240u epson scanner and my computor will not see it, I have been told by Epson that I do not have chipsets enabled in my pc which is a gmb p57sax v0 mother board, please is any one out there that can tell me how to get them working. Thank you Vic..

Well, I'm not one to argue with Epsom, since they make a whole lot more money that I do, but what you say that they say sounds totally screwy! Are you sure you were talking to tech support? Scanners generally connect via USB or parallel ports and employ a twain driver, none of which has anyting to do with chipsets on the motherboard. You don't say how you connect or what OS you are using. Is it a USB connection -- and if so is USB enabled in your BIOS?

I suspect a communication breakdown with Epson. Post back with the particulars of your situation. Scanner model, System mmanufacturer/model and like rac asks, how are you connecting the scanner to the system.

Deja vu.
This happened to me in July. The Epson techie was smug & obnoxious. I returned the machine to place of purchase. But turns out we're not alone: I found someone else with this problem in another area of the forum (Jessica). Krystnya answered with : Q240075 regarding USB devices not working in Win 98 with a via
tech USB controller.Go to the Microsoftk Support Knowledge Base
and type in the number above. It will lead you to a download patch.Hope it works. I'm trying an HP scanner tomorrow with the patch.
Good luck..
