scandisk won't complete

Scandisk froze, couldn't ctrl-alt-del, so turned off PC. Now when booting up, hangs at "verifying DMI pool data." Tried boot disk and ran scandisk off of boot disk. scanned thru directories but couldn't get to surface scan. Should I give up and erase fixed disk & install Win95 and lose everything or should I.........???

I have the same problem. I've reformatted my HDD and I still cant reload Win 98. Did you ever get yours to work? I think I'm going to run f-disk next.

If you already formatted go ahead and do fdisk and mdr/fdisk Then reload your operating system although I recommened that you scandisk again to check for bad areas on the surface of your hard drive

When you reboot your system press F8 and boot from safe mode. run scandisk in safe mode followed by defrag. If defrag freezes half way reboot and run scandisk in safe mode again, then defrag eventually you should be able to run scandisk and defrag in normal mode.
