Scandisk problems

every time I boot my system up, it goes into scandisk (in dos) and then doesn't scan the drive.

Does it come up with a reason for not running the scan? - no memory etc..?

When "starting windows" flashes on the screen at startup het F8 and choose step by step confermation. When himem loades is there a error message? when it asks 'load the windows drivers" choose no and type MEM and enter. Is the EMS memory present? Type CHKDSK this should report memory info and hard drive size. Note that if the total conventional memory is reported as 2k smaller than normal (655360)There could be a boot virus. Type SCANDISK/? for a list of options. If scandisk wont work replace the file scandisk.exe

If it's 98, your system is probably shutting down to fast. It is a power mgmt issue. If it's 98, at the "run" command, type msconfig. Goto advanced button and check "Disable fast shutdown." This has taken care of me many times. PM

My scandisk program would not run in dos mode properly, message "not enough conventional memory".It was however working in windows mode ok. Now it will not work properly in windows either. Getting message that it "has restarted 10 times, may be a program trying to write to scandisk". Any advice would be greatly appreciated. regards, Steve.
