Comment:

I got a big prob.
The problem started with Scandisk. Whenever i tried to run it, I either got a black screen or an error message with a failure in user.exe. After that I couldn't even start the Explorer without resulting in an error in "explorer.exe". So Crtl+Alt+Del got my final solution as the switch off function resulted in an shell32.dll - failure.

Well I decided to format my HDD (partition C:) and reinstall Win 98 SE.

Said and done, but.....the problems remain.

Some Progs even hang up after a time.
Winamp can`t remember the last skin it had for example, to name the small problems too.

If anyone out there can help me, I would appreciate to receive a mail from these wise person....... ;)

Thanks alot in advance !

Thought it might be a virus. But if you have re-installed Windows form scratch on a freshly formatted hard drive, that seems unlikely. Unless you re-installed the virus along with all of your other software...

It could be a bad hard drive...

Have you tried to run scandisk from DOS?

create a startup disk this way: go to
my computer
control panel
add/remove software
the tab Startup disk
and follow the instructions

put this disk in the floppydrive and restart

when the dos prompt appears, type:

scandisk c: /surface /autofix /nosummary
/nosave
and the press enter

this will examine and repair your disk
(mind: there are 5 spaces in the command line,
one before the c, and one before every /)

You might also want to check your RAM.

Sounds like your memory is faulty.
