Bad clusters normally indicate a failing hard drive.
If you have important files now is a good time to do a backup.

You can run scandisk 'thorough' to see how many bad sectors the drive has.

When I run windows in safe mode, this comes up:
Warning: Windows has detected a registry/configuration error. Choose Command prompt only and run SCANREG.
The following file is missing or corrupted: C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS C:\WINDOWS\DBLBUFF.SYS C:\WINDOWS\IFSHLP.SYS

Now I formatted my machine. During windows98 setup, I have a .cab error. How can I fix it? The error is as follow:
"Setup has detected a corrupt Setup(.cab) file. This may be caused by a virus, low conventional memory, bad media, or a hardware problem."
"See the Error Messages section of Setup.txt for more information. Setup cannot continue. Click OK to quit Setup."
Can anyone help me, that will be excellent, thanks!

In response 7 bad media would mean your win98se cd is corrupt. If you have another source make a copy of your win98se cd and try to install with the copy.Sometimes copying an old windows cd works out fine.
It's worth a try.

If it's not the CD you could check the memory out. Try one stick at a time in first postition.
Sometimes it helps to take the RAM out clean the edge connectors with a pencil eraser then pop them in and out a few times to clear any tarnish off the edge connectors.
The symptoms don't fit too neatly but RAM troubles can cause all sorts of wild effects.
