scandisk error

OS: win 95
CPU/Ram: old/not enough

i start windows up and i get a error that there maybe bad sectors and that i need to run scandisk. so i run scandisk and it hangs or just takes forever on a certain file it's checking. any help would be great

Boot to dos standalone and type
scandisk C:

If that fails, type
scandisk c: /surface

That will thoroughly check your hard drive. You might want to do that in any case. But it will take a LONG time.

Does it show the file name that it seems to hang on?
