ScanDisk Doesn't Load

June 13, 2010 at 10:24:38
Specs: Windows 98
I just found an old laptop around and when it
starts up, it says my hard drive may have bad
sectors on it and it runs scan disk. Thing is,
ScanDisk shows up with a blue screen and
the word ScanDisk at the top, and nothing
else happens, it freezes. I have tried putting
"Autoscan=0" under the Options part in the
MSDOS.SYS file but that does nothing, i have
also cleared out the config.sys and the
atuoexec.bat but that doesn't seem to help
either. Someone please help!!!

Boot off the Win98 boot floppy & run scandisk from DOS. You'll need the version w/o the RAMdrive:

nvm that last post. I got the boot disc but scandisk still does
nothing when i try to scan the C: drive. I should note that it
scans the a: drive just fine. Still not sure what to do, would it be
possible to trick the computer into thinking it was shutdown
properly last time?
