Comment:

I recently had some bad sectors on my Intel 600mhtz, 64mg ram and to eliminate them I deleted all partitions and then created a primary partition to enable a reformat. After the reformat I reinstall win98SE and when I tried to run a throrough scan disk shortly after it starts I get a fatal exception error and have to reboot. Also tried a standard scan and actually got a little further but still fatal exception occurred. If anyone can help out with some advice that would be gratefully appreciated
Thanx in advance

I would try a full format, or first to run scandisk from the C: prompt.

btw repartitioning and formating doesnt get rid of bad sectors
they are areas on the disk that are incapable of storing data and are marked bad to keep anything from attempting to write on them

Thanks guys for the help, but I think the inevitable is that the hard drive, while only a year old is on its way out so time to get it replaced under warranty I think

Thank again

in order to clear away the bad sectors, you have to do a low level format. but this is usally the last resort for fixing hdd. cos it something goes wrong during the low level format, your hdd is useless. since it's still under warranty, send it for a replacement or repair it.
