:: System ... W95B, IE3
:
:::: Whenever I log onto the web, I have to type my password in 2 places.
:: One place has a box that says "Save Password" After I type my password in this box becomes "ungrayed" & stays so until I turn the computer off.
:: How do I get this "Save" box to work?
:: I have no real idea how the I'net is set up in my comp. It was set up for me by the local company I bought the comp. from, & they're no longer in business :( so can't ask them.
: As far as I know, I'm not using the "Inbox" which has a icon on the main desktop--at least I've never clicked on it.
:: ALSO ... what's a .pwl file? Found one with my name as its title. Don't know WHAT this is .... a "cookie" perhaps? If so, can I delete it witout messing up something?
::
::: MY LOCAL area code is changing & even though the call to my ISP is local (I'm using a service in my city--not CompuServe, AOL, or one of the other national services), I should change the area code box(s).
::: WHAT I WOULD like to know is this: How many times is my area code in IE3/W95B? Found 2 so far.
:: Tried the "Find Files" command to search for area code, and it won't find it.

First a PWL is a PASSWORD LIST actually a password file list. HTis file stores password or words in an encrytped usually 128 bit form. That means it is a hard ass file to crack so it is safe. When you log on for the first time this file is created. usually it is (USERNAME).pwl.

OK I APOLOGIZE FOR THAT! NOT SURE WHY MY PC WANTED TO SAVE 3 TIMES, BUT HEH COOL ANYWAYS.

the box is greyed out because it thinks you are logged onto the PC as the default user. And therefore will not save any passwords or remember any settings. It is in dumb mode. Find all pwl file by doing a *.pwl search. next delete them all THIS WILL ONLY DELETE THE PASSWORDS IN THE FILE NOTHING ELSE WILL BE EFFECTED. once deleted restart the computer and logon as yourself. Either type in a logon password or leave it blank. Now you should be able to save passwords all over the place. AGAIN SORRY ABOUT THE PHANTOM THREE SAVES ABOVE ;)
