If you're considering Direcway satellite internet, I'd like to share something with you. I ordered the service from a partnered company who said I would be able to access a remote computer (which is necessary for me to work, and why I was ordering this expensive service). What I should have asked specifically, is "does satellite internet work with VPN?" Because it does not, although I don't think the installation techs would have known enough to tell me. To make a long story short, I called the local co. to cancel the service, once I found out it is basically good just for surfing the internet and downloading at high speeds (as long as you don't download too MUCH, but that is another story). The local co. said I had to cancel the contract through Direcway myself. So, I called them, requested a cancel, and they told me I would not get back any of the $199 installation fee, I would be charged an immediate $400 deposit which would be returned to me as soon as they received their equipment, and I would be responsible for shipping back their equipment and paying for shipment. So, basically, after being told this would work for me, I am out approximately $600 and counting (shipping will be HIGH, considering this dish weighs OVER 50 pounds), $400 of which will be refunded, but holy @#*%!, I am not made out of money.
My main point here is, think twice about ordering Direcway satellite service. It's expensive, just OK for surfing, and completely useless for anything else. And yes, there's a "Business Edition" that provides a static IP, which SHOULD imply VPN capability, but there's no guarantee (as someone from the B.E. sales dept. at Direcway told me).
I definitely DO NOT RECCOMMEND DIRECWAY SATELLITE INTERNET!

I am a DirecPC customer (similar to Direcway, only it's one-way) and I would completely agree with you. It is overpriced and pathetic service. I found out about the downloading caps after the sales people assured me that I would be able to download at high speeds with no problems whatsoever.
I tried to return mine but found out that I am in a 1 year contract with them and it would cost too much to get out of it.
Satellite Internet SUCKS!

Yeah, as of now, satellite internet sucks...maybe someday they'll get it right, but right now they're more into sales.
The download "caps" are also called FAPS, which means Fair Access Policies. The satellite systems can't handle giving all of its customers 400kbps access all the time. So, when you hit a certain download limit, they cut back your download/access speed. You'll drop down to around 80-150 Kbps., which is a steep speed cut. Basically, if you download in excess of 169MB in about a four hour time frame, you will be cut back. Then, in about 8-12 hours, you should be back to higher speed again.
