Hi,
I am not the most technical person. My pc, which has got win 98 on it, had norton antivirus 2003 on it, and this morning, i turned it on, and it had this error msg about the device "savrt" after reading a few forums about that, I realised that uninstalling it, was the way forward. I have done that, but now the pc is starting in what looks like safe mode (but without the safe mode logo in each corner of the screen) and also there is no mouse icon, so i can't use the mouse. Can anybody help??????
Thank you.
John

John, Use your arrow keys on your keyboard to replace the use of the mouse, then when you are where you want to be use the Enter Key.

thanks, but I need the mouse, and also to change the screen resolution.
PLus the arrow keys aren't working.

Apparently the problem started today, so use scanreg /restore from the command prompt mode and restore the system to an earlier date.

savrt - is not a device. It is Symantec AntiVirus RealTime protection. You must have deleted mucho stuff for your computer to act like it does.

If it looks like Safe Mode but without "safe mode" in each corner then it is normal Windows. Most likely you are set to a low resolution (as you are in Safe Mode). You can do anything with the keyboard, if it's working, but if you are unable to change the resolution then it is a graphics driver issue.
The mouse doesn't work, the keyboard isn't right, and (it seems) the graphic driver has gone adrift. What have you been doing?
If you haven't been around deleting files or uninstalling all sorts of things then follow post #3.

That can happen if your system.ini file is corrupted. The scanreg/restore mentioned above would replace that file.
The problem may be something else, and uninstalling norton stuff often screws things up too. But give it a try. If you get the video and mouse back run scandisk.

I agree with DAVEINCAPS. The same thing happened to one of my computers the other morning. I'm guessing it just didn't shut down correctly and corrupted something. You may have to use a boot disk to get to the command prompt c: But I did a scanreg /restore to the pevious day and everthing went back to normal.

I had a similar Problem but no mouse in Normal mode. I did some research and found out you can delete the PS/2 Compatible Mouse port ( thats the 1 I have) Then shut down and restart the PC Windows will automatically detect the drive is missing and rebuild it upon reboot. I dunno if it's the same for you but it sure is worth a try. Good luck
