Comment:

I am getting a "Runtime error 216 at
0000A430" at bootup. After I click
out of the error message the computer
runs but is sluggish.
Any suggestions?
Please email.

Runtime errors are sometimes caused by being infected by a Trojan.
Have you run a full antivirus check with updated definitions?

I agree. Check your Win.ini for this line:

Run=Msrexe.exe

If present, you have a subseven trojan.

Win.ini is only ONE place where SubSeven starts from.
The later versions start from the registry.

I updated my Virus Software with the latest
files...ran the software (Norton 2001) twice,
took several hours....still got the same problem...
If it is in the registry..how do I get rid of it...???
Thanks.

If the error is at boot time, then it is one of your startup programs.
Win98, do Start > run > MSCONFIG > Startup Tab to see them.
Win95, use StartupCop

You can find typical startups here.

Also, check in Autoexec.bat. You can try renaming it, and rebooting and see it the error disappears.

My Compaq just developed the same problem; runtime error 216 at 0000A430. This message comes on the screen after start up just AFTER another error window: Program "ATTHOME" "performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". ATTHOME is resident in the windows/system directory and I believe it is unrelated to the Windows 98 system I have installed.
