Hallo, i am in need of help as when i start my computer, it goes for about 10 minutes and then freezes with this message 'runtime error 424' object required!.
Am not sure what to do, as it will always do this, even if i am not opening anything.
is it a virus, or is somthing seriously screwing with my computer.
i tried to defragment, scan disk, and some anti virus programs, but nothing seems to work.
am freaking out.
can anyone help

This has been reported to occur in older versions (EX:4 and 5)of Internet Explorer that have received a Microsoft Security Patch against malicious codes inserted by some Webpages and is caused by a VB script from the Webpages.
What is your IE version number?
For details check the MSKB article 214554 Runtime ERROR: 424 Object Required

I've almost the same problem while running Win98. Above reply looks like a resolution of the problem but it's for IE4.x of 5.x based. Now I've installed IE6 on that machine a couple of months earlier than the problem disappear(yesterday).
Anyone who knows how to solve this?
Is it just remove IE6 and older components? And can't it be a hardware malfunction?
Thanks in advance.

Hey
I am having exactly the same problem! My computer works normally for about ten minutes and then it freezes, coming up with the message 'run time error 424, object required' and a minimized window on the scroll bar saying explorer. Is this a virus or a bug? how can a fix it??!!

the minimized window doesn't say 'explorer', it says 'explore'. this seems to be a virus; try googling for 'explore.exe'.

hi there i am exactly gettting the same pop up like bretty but i cant do anything to fix it is there any way that i could get it fixed i tried lookingon the site recommended by "madhuriMN" but dosent seem to be like solving my problem

Great. Looks like what I've got as recall the bizarre default Explorer start page "geocities/yori_mrakkadi"
Now what? Above Network Assoc link seems to be for business accounts? Do i endeavour to purchase fix at work and download at home?

chris--
it's not that hard to remove manually, just kill the EXPLORE.exe process in task manager and get rid of the dropped files listed in the link.
may or may not have to do with the virus, but the next day my network connection stopped working; fixed that by restoring a registry backup.

Where are the dropped files and how to restore a registry backup? Kind of lost here, thanks for all the help.

Actually got rid of the error 424 by killing all explorer files, now i am stuck with netscape and when i download explorer, it starts again. Anyone has any idea?

Hello,
I've got the virus on my computer and I don't possess the computer savy to remove it myself. (it the same virus that everyone is suffering from on this thread - runtime error 424, geocities/yori_mrakkadi,)
I've usually got about 2 or three minutes on my computer before the mouse freezes up.... could anyone give me a step by step on how to remove it from my system.
My computer is an old Pentium MMX 200 with 64mb and windows 98. Thanks for your help.

All, THIS IS A VIRUS
I had this "424" problem... I found a solution! at least it is working with no unknown issues after three days. First you need to boot in SAFE MODE... once in safe mode go to 'start', then 'find', then 'files or folders'... type in "explore.exe" (with out the quotes, and NOT EXPLORER) !DO NOT OPEN the files, just right click and delete! The .exe was in two locations on my CPU. now do the same thing for "SMTP" and delete... if the SMTP file is 25,737 bytes you know you have the right file. Remember to empty your trash... now re-boot and see if this works. Good luck!

Yes this is a virus known as one of the following..
I-Worm.Hawawi.g (AVP)
W32.Galil.C@mm (Symantec)
W32/Hawawi.G@mm (F-Secure)
W32/Holar-I (Sophos)
WORM_HAWAWI.F (TrendIf you have a virus scanner try to do an update, reboot into safe mode and run virus scan. (win98) It worked for me. If you don't have a virus scan you can try to go to www.antivirus.com and do a free online scan.(PC Trend Micro) scan now...if you can get thru it before freezing.
Good Luck!!!!
