Comment:

I am currently running Windows 3.11 WFW.

I was considering running 95 on my laptop but I prefer the simplicity and speed of the Windows 3.11 shell, which can be duplicated on Windows 95.

Does Windows 95 run any lighter if running the shell as progman.exe instead of explorer.exe? I know the system.ini can be modified for booting.

I am asking because I don't want to have to reinstall 3.11 if it turns out there is no difference.

Yes, I think you'll find W95 very slow with that spec. You might need to check your HD free capacity too. If it pushes the HD near to it's limits you get another bag of problems.

Oh, yeah - there'll be a difference alright....

95 doesn't start running well until around 16Mb+, and, as mentioned, hard drive capacity could be a critical factor. With that little RAM, plenty (100Mb++) of room will need to be left for the swapfile, if you ever plan on opening applications
