Whenever I run Defrag then my mail won't work afterwords. Have to reinstall Outlook Express to get it to work again. Any ideas?

Are you running a Scandisk first?
If so, it's scandisk that is the culprit, not defrag.
Defrag should be doing nothing that would affect file integrity.

So what is it that Scandisk is doing that is messing with Mail settings and what can I do to prevent?

When you run Scandisk, ensure that you are running with Logging set, and AUTOfix OFF.

You will then see any errors that scandisk tries to fix.
If you are unsure about what an error means, selet ignore and then post it back here for advice.
