what is rundll32 and what causes it to illegally operate everytime i do anything in IE 5.5 (fully updated)??

I can not tell you what all rundll32 is but can tell you was need it to keep everthing running. I was getting the same thing till today. I thought I would have to crash the computer and star all over but first I went in to the registry and used text editor and removed the error from the registry. Everything seem ok now. I think this all started form msn.
