Can you start Windows after you click ok or whatever button you clicked??? If so,I think you should get a brand new rundll32.exe from another computer that has the same OS. Hey,I got this problem,too. But mine is not as major as Nick's.

Check the hardware setting in device manager. Try to disable the useless background jobs.
