I am running Windows 98SE-400mhz P2
When I got to start-run, the command list is always empty.
When I Have to install a program from a CD I type in there D:/Setup.exe it does nothing, and it does not save the command.
I know how to delete commands from the command list, but I do not know how to turn on this feature so that it will save the commands.

If the (Run)MRU (most recently used folder) is missing in the registry it wouldn't retain the entries.
It should be at:[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\RunMRU]Have you tried scanreg /fix at a dos prompt?

I ran scanreg/fix at the DOS prompt.
The CD I am trying to install says to type in D:\Setup.exe
When I do this I get a message:
Cannot find the file D:\Setup.exe (or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available.
How do I get to the registry to see if the Run MRU is in the registry?

I found regedit.exe by going to find.
When I went to [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\RunMRU]
It says (Default) (Value Not Set)
How do I set the value?

I looked all over the net and didn't find your problem mentioned, so I can't help. But here are some things that might help you think of something to try.
My RunMRU says the same thing as yours. (But below that entry is a list of programs that is the same as those in my RUN drop down list).
I tried the D:\Setup.exe command and it worked fine on mine, and it is now in my MRU list.
If you try to run a command that doesn't work, it doesn't show up in the MRU list.
If you type regedit into the RUN dialog box and click OK, does it work? If so, is regedit now in your MRU list? You probably already know, but, if your CD-ROM drive is not D drive, you have to change the D to the letter that is assigned to your CD-ROM drive. Maybe like this E:\setup.exe
Good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Yes regedit is in the run list.
My CD-ROM is Drive D.
It will not take the command D:\Setup.exe for some reason, and will not save it to the run list.

Terry,
I tried to email pictures of my registry for commparison, 'hope you get them. But I don't think that's your problem. Here is something else to try...
Start>Run, click the Browse button, use the drop down menu to navigate to your CD-ROM drive and look for the setup.exe file.
Open it from there.
Could you find the file? Did it work?

Well I found out I do not really have a problem with my CD.
I put the same CD in several other computers , and it did the same thing as mine.
It is a bad disk.
Thanks for all your input, you have all been nice to communicate with.
