I have win98 and have a dos based dedicated program. Actually the pc is dedicated and i want the pc to boot and run the program automatically after booting. Till now, the pc is boot to win98 and i have to manually go to the dos prompt and run the program.please help ?

There's an excellent free program called MacroMaker (create and run macros) at.....
http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/MacroMaker/macromaker.html
This will do it and a lot more.
Good luck.

go to windows explorer in the root of C drive and right click on the file name 'msdos.sys' and uncheck the read only box. open that file with notepad and then change the bootgui from 1 to 0, save and close the file. edit the autoexec.bat and add line at the bottom for the path and the program name that you want to startup automatically, ie c:\ xxxx.exe. When you want to get back to windows, just type in 'win' at the c prompt.

correction, right click the file and then choose property then you will see the pop up windows to uncheck the read only box.

You could put program in:
Start/Programs/Startupor in
c:\windows\all users\start menu\programs\startup

Open Explorer and find the program. Right click it and choose Send To "Desktop (create shortcut)".
Now as Derek says, put the shortcut in your StartUp folder.
Best

I think the suggestion by Budm is more suitable for my problem because i want the program to run automatically without any mouse or keyboard activity after booting.
Thanks a lot to all of you for your valuable suggestions.Regards,

I quite accept your preference but just to clarify, putting the program in startup doesn't require any keyboard activity either. It just runs when you boot.

If you have a DOS program that you want to run in DOS without starting windows, the original post by budm is the way to go:
"""go to windows explorer in the root of C drive and right click on the file name 'msdos.sys' and uncheck the read only box. open that file with notepad and then change the bootgui from 1 to 0, save and close the file. edit the autoexec.bat and add line at the bottom for the path and the program name that you want to startup automatically, ie c:\ xxxx.exe."

Yeah, OK, on re-read it seems this is a "true DOS program". In which case my suggestion about putting
it in startup (Windows) is clearly NOT an option.DerekW
