Hi all, we bought a Belkin wireless router yesterday. Installed it on one computer and that one is all hooked up to the router and working fine, when we ran the ethernet from the other computer to the router we found we are not able to get online. I talked to tech support at Belkin and got nowhere, one solid piece of info though was that the tech guy told me I needed (I think) NIC...I don't know what that means. This was a school computer then a home PC for my brother in law and his family, they used cable internet and the same service provider we are trying to use. Any tips?

NIC stands for Network Interface Card. That is what you used when the computer was connected to cable internet. Plug looks like a phone jack but slightly wider.

Not sure how you were attempting to connect to the wireless router. Were you running a cable?

Try using an RJ45 crossover cable from the router to the second computer. That should fix you up.

When using a router and cat-5 (ethernet) cables to connect to it - "all" such cables will (normally) be standard straight thru type - "not" crossover...

Does the problem PC actually have a NIC (as defined/explained by "OtH" above)?

Echoing "OtH" how are you attempting to connect the problem PC to router at present? Also how is the "other" PC connected (and apparently working OK); is it as wireless or cat-5 (ethernet cable) connection?
