I'm going round in circles looking for the support page for a Compaq Presario 7210 Desktop. (On behalf of my neighbour).
It's only a 75mhz CPU - And so it's an old system, and although i've followed the links above as a last resort, well, i still can't find anything!
Can anyone help me out?
Many thanks - blo.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/...
takes you the hp/compaq support section... for the series.
(sorry about the long url/link; copy/paste it into IE or firefox etc...)
But as jam asks... what are you looking for/hoping to do?

This is the compaq ftp site with all their SP file downloads:
ftp://ftp.compaq.com/pub/softpaq/
You could download allfiles.txt and do a text search for something like rompaq and 7210 and see if anything turns up. Unfortunately the files are not necessarily associated with model numbers.
A rompaq is compaq's version of a bios update so it may not be needed if the PC is running OK.

Just for info, your link worked fine. The webmaster invoked active linking on all pasted links a little while back.
We no longer have to scratch our HTML heads.

DAVEINCAPS:
" A rompaq is compaq's version of a bios update so it may not be needed if the PC is running OK. "
I thought that (rompaq) was a typo...; one learns sumat new frequently...

Been away for a few days - Thanks for all the answers folks...
I need to upgrade the 850mb H/Drive to a Fujitsu 3.24GB H/Drive, keeping the installed Win95 install intact, and restoring the present, or newer F10 Partition to the new H/D?The info i need, is:
1/ The actual model no to this system, AND/OR the location of a newer ROMPAQ?
2/Whether the present F10 Partition (Dated 12/15/1995 Family 586i) is capable of recognising ALL of the 3.24GB on new disc, or if it has a 2.1GB limit.I am familiar with Rompaq's + Sofpaq's + Fdisk + Fujitsu H/D Utilities etc... I've already searched the FTP's text file (Re: DAVIENCAPS), and as i've said; have been going 'round in circles!
I've ran up a Diagnostics + Setup disc from the present F10 partition.
System ROM info reads:
Revision 12/15/95
Family 586iRE: Trvlr - Thanks, but link doesn't show 7210.
I have been told that this is the way it should be done...
Boot with New H/D only + Delete all partitions.
Make 30MB partition, but do not Format it.
Boot with Diagnostics Disc (1st) and with Setup Disc (2nd), installing both to the 30MB unformatted space.
Restart and format the rest of disc's free space.
Then copy win95 from the source disc. One thing that isn't apparent from the above instructions is whether you need to make a new partition before formatting the remaining free space.
Thank to all who've helped so far - Blo.

More system info:
Front of Case reads: Presario 7210
Sticker on back: L610GWG4W982
Serial no: TB62167069
Motherboard Riser-Slot reads...
Model (PL5600G)-OK-OM,1M,VRAM(PL5600G MB)
Written inside somewhere is...
Series 3327
Compaq Presario 7500 SeriesCheers - Blo.

Compaq used to keep the cmos info on a small partition on the hard drive. I don't know if yours is that way or not. If you disconnect the hard drive, boot up the computer and can enter setup via F10 then it's not and you don't have to worry about setting up the hard drive that way. I didn't see the F10 setup utility listed as a download for the 7200 models but that doesn't necessarily mean you don't need it. There was an F10 patch listed but I don't think that's the one.
If you do need to set up the partition the diagnostic disks and/or the specific F10 setup utility will do it. You wouldn't use a 9X bootdisk.
For those PC's that don't need the hard drive F10 cmos setup, compaq would still use that partition for diagnostic tools. But that's not really necessary and you can use the PC just fine without the diagnostic tools. In that case you can use a 9X bootdisk and create a single dos partition using all the space.
I would think the bios as it is will see a 3 gig drive OK. If it's limited in seeing the size that limitation would be 500 meg. Since you're already using an 800 meg I don't think you need to worry about that. The 2 gig limitation is due to older OS's that can only see fat16, which has a maximum size of 2 gig. However, if your 95 is the first version it too suffers from that limitation.
If the bios sees the 3 gig OK--and you're not limited to 2 gig partitions because of your OS--you should be able to use a drive copy utility to clone the 850 drive to the 3 gig. Then you wouldn't have to worry about setting up the extra partition.
So first see what 95 version you have. Then disconnect the hard drive and see if F10 still works. Then we'll know if we need to hunt down any diagnostic or setup disks.

After 'booting without HardDrive' - (And after memory count) I am presented with the Compaq logo - The message: 'No fixed Disc Present', and 2 Menu Options: "F1 - Save New Settings", and "F2 - Discard Changes". There's "NO F10", and trying to access it during boot-up doesn't work either!
I used Maxblast 3 to look at the source disc's layout, and this is how it's described:-
+ Conner Peripherals 850mb CFS850A
-Presario 845 MBytes *(FAT 16)*
+ Bios Drive (81 hex) 667MB (This branch doesn't open).
As Windows 95 Version info. states "Windows 95 4.00.950, and the fact that there is no Drive Converter listed in Start/AllPrograms/Accessories/SystemTools, i'm assuming that the 2.1 GB limit actually 'DOES' apply to this system - Is this right?Well, that's about it i think... Except that i should mention, i noticed the H/Drive is named "Presario586"... If that means anything!
I guess i'll have to buy a smaller H/D, but i could still do with your help on the procedure, and identification of the system for when i DO!

Yeah, 4.00.950 is the first version limited to 2 gig fat16 partitions. It still may be possible to use a cloning program to copy the 850 to the 3 gig and then set the remaining space as an extended partition with a virtual second drive. But that's getting kind of complicated if you're not familiar with it.
When it gives you the F1 and F2 options it sounds like it is saving the info. When using F10 you need to hit the key when the flashing cursor moves to the upper right corner of the screen.
The 586 is a generic term for a pentium. Several chip manufacturers were making the previous generations of computer cpus. So no one maker owned the names 386, 486, etc. Intel decided to name their version of the 586 as Pentium, a name they could own.
Compaqs are often hard to set up, what with the diagnostic or setup partition and often proprietary hardware. When someone would ask me to fix an old one I'd just ask if I could substitute a similar non-compaq PC to avoid having to work on it.
I probably have a few 2 gig drives. If you can't find one there for a good price let me know.

I could have used a maxtor 4.3GB H/D i have - Using the CLJ (CylinderLimitationJumper), but it's better for the neighbour if i keep it straight forward and get a 2.1GB from eBay, or preferably a mate of mine. (as you are 3 or 4 thousand miles away)!
I would appreciate an FTP link to the 7210 Rompaq, or tell me how you searched for it in the text file. (If it was a 7210)?
And the procedure for copying from present disc, to the 2.1GB i am going to get if you know it?
... I don't need a detailed description - Just the gist of it will do, or a link to it somewhere! (I've had trouble finding it).
Thanks for your quick reply - All the best, Blo.

I didn't check the allfiles.txt file until now. I opened it with wordpad and did a search first for 7210 and then 7200. Neither returned any rompaqs. I'm pretty sure every SP file compaq had is listed there so I guess they never made an update for that model.
The way I clone a disk is to use the installation utility provided by either of the drive manufacturers. So you could either use the Fujitsu or Seagate utility (Seagate owns Conner). I have DiskManager (the original utilities used by the manufacturers) for both fujitsu and seagate and could email one to you.
I guess you wouldn't have to get a smaller drive if you could get it to clone to a 2 gig partition on the 3 gig drive.

A link to the SEAGATE tool inserted in this thread may help others, and you can p.m. me if you want to send it to me. (I'm obviously not going to post my email address).
MANY THANKS FOR YOUR HELP - BLO.

In regard to Fujitsu; I've got two disc utilities... "Disc Go 2.4.5" and "Disc Manager 9.5.2"... Which, (If any) is the most recent version? (Or the best one to use)? heers!

I don't have direct links to those utilities. As far as I know the drive manufacturers no longer support disk manager as they now supply their own utilites. These are just versions I've downloaded in the past.
I believe 'disk go' is the utility that creates the bootable diskmanager disk. I'm pretty sure the diskmanager version you have would work fine for those older drives.
All you'd need to do is hook up both drives, jumpered either as master/slave or cable select on the same cable or you could temporarily connect one of the drives on the secondary, perhaps in place of the cdrom. Then boot up with the diskmanager disk. I think the copy utility is one of the Utility options. When you initiate the copy utility make sure you correctly select the 'source' and 'destination' drives.
