Maybe an easy question but everyone needs a break. Is there any way I can re-write to the windows messages to my specs? IE. YES, NO CANCEL become YEAH, NOPE, FORGET IT...?
Not essential but I wanna do it...- Cheers guys.

Yes, It can be done but then, your computer will detect it as a virus and also you violate the laws too for re-write the windows message!
Christopher

G'day Stiv, right up my alley this one. My eyes lit up when I seen this post.
YES it can be done with programs called Resource Editors, two of the best are Exescope and Reshacker. I've been flogging these programs here for years with very little interest from people, how strange ?
First, resources are :
Icons, Bitmaps, Menus, Dialog boxes, animations [avi], audio files, html codes, cursors, registry installation keys and more that are embedded in program files. Most of these things can be modified to a point, some even deleted.
What you can do with these programs is :
Change icons, bitmaps, cursors
Reorder, remove, reword, delete items, disable, resize, reposition the dialog boxes that you see for this or that.
Same for Menu Items like those from Explorer, Folder Windows and your Browser.
These are the file types that you can edit;
*.exe, *.dll, *.cpl, *.ocx, not all have resources but most have and not all have all the things I've listed either.
Some examples of what I have done using my favorite tool are; Added my name to most dialog boxes [Ronnie, are you sure you want to do delete that file ?] Removed many things from Menus and Menu Bars, retitled program windows, added my computers name in Regedit at the top of the tree instead of 'My Computer', changed some bitmaps and icons all over the place [I'm getting excited now...] and renamed the ShellIconCache file and gave it it's own extension. Changed Index.dat to a different name and different extension, as well as gave cookies a new Prefix: name and a different extension. A Hex Editor comes in handy to find some hidden stuff too.
Did this in all versions of Windows and as yet have had no problems, and no bloody stupid Virii either. There was some 'trial and error" but I sorted things out eventually.
So when someone says 'it can't be done' it means that they can't do it and who's gonna know, or care, what you do to your own system anyway.
My shutdown box has 'Yep' and 'Nope" on the buttons as well and is half original size now !!!!

Exescope... how exactly do you use it? I'm not exactly... adept at the programming side of computers... is there a guide on any website somewhere? Great news, thanx tho ronnie. :)

These programs have help files and to use them for some files you must backup the original first to a safe place and as many system files are in use by Windows and cannot be touched you can play around with a copy of them and copy them back through DOS.
It would take me forever to explain them but a simple change you can make is to put your name in Regedit at the top of the tree, as a test.
Just open it in Exescope and select Resource, then String and then the number 2 string, change the wording of '19,My Computer' [never touch the #ID or the comer] to your name , save the change and close Exescope and open Regedit. Your name should then be at the top of the hive list. SFC might auto-change back the original file so place Regedit somewhere else to test it, it will work from anywhere.
Best thing to is to look at a few system files such as Explorer.exe, shell32.dll, wininet.dll, browselc.dll and familiarize yourself with their contents before attempting anything. At least you can now see whats in them. I have looked at every .exe and .dll etc... in all windows versions [took months]
I have never done programming but I was like a 'duck to water' with these programs and have never stuffed my systems up. I use them constantly.
Good Luck [p.s. Reshacker is free]
There were once some websites but they were limited as to what to do, I did half create one once but lost interest and nuked it. For further help try the programming forum and I will try to guide you as best I can there.
