hi,

I noticed a peculiar problem on my computer. In windows explorer, when i click on 'View' and then 'Folder Options', i get this message - "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact you system administrator". I'm not able to proceed beyond this point. The same applies for Internet Explorer. I'm using Win98 SE and it's a standalone pc.

Has anyone encountered this problem before? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

Greg

Have you checked IE properties, security, and advanced settings to make sure you don't have blocks set. Also go to control panel and checked systems, or systems mangagement to make sure nothing is set to require passwords.

I checked both the places. No blocks set anywhere. Also, I get the same message when i click on 'Internet Options' under 'Tools' of IE5. But i can get in by right clicking on the IE icon on my desktop.
Any more hints?

Hi,

I had also this stupid problem - "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact you system administrator" - in my Windows 98 when I tried to view Internet options (IE5/Tools/Internet options...) or view Folder option in My computer/View/folder options.

I dont' know where this problem came from, but finally I managed to solve it simply by removing following key from Registry:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer/Restrictions

Name Data
Default (value not set)
NoBrowserOptions 1

Remember to backup your Registry first and reboot you computer.
