The article "Locking Your Windows" from
http://www.pcworld.com/heres_how/article/0,1400,14624+1+2,00.htmlhas a procedure starting with " To ensure file sharing is off, right-click Network Neighborhood." Since I deleted this Network Neighborhood icon, I gave a valiant try to reinstall it to no avail.
Following "Restoring Network Neighborhood Icon" in http://computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/12385.html and
pp.274-5 of PC WORLD Nov 1999 on TWEAK UI, I found I cannot Restoring Network Neighborhood Icon in WIN 98 Second Edition1. I downloaded Windows 95 Power Toys Set from http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/
During the installing of Power Toys, I experienced quite a few complaints of *.DLL not found" and used "skip" repeatedly to get going.
Now after each restarting, I got the following RUNDLL complaint:
[Error loading C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ShellExt\target.dll The system cannot find the file specified.]
2. I somehow cannot get the following working under WIN98 SE:
[Subject: Restoring Network Neighborhood Icon
Reply: Install Tweak UI. Under desktop check the button Network Neighborhood.]Could not find any file "Network Neighborhood" using FIND after
'Right click the Network Neighborhood icon and select "Shown on Desktop" '
and then restart didn't do the job.ANY HELP?

Go to the Network icon in Control Panel. Then hilight the protocol you want to check for Sharing on and then click the File and Printer Sharing bar towards the bottom of the window. MAke sure they are both unchecked.

to get your network neighborhood icon back you have to go to:control panel/network. you have to have 3 things in there. you have to have a client: client for microsoft networks is the one to use. you have to have dial up adapter. and you have to have TCP/IP in there. also in the next dialog box down it must say: primary network logon: client for microsoft networks. if you do all this, you will get your network neighborhood icon back. promise.

I was frustrated as all get-out. My Network Neighborhood Icon magically disappeared from my desktop and nowhere could I find a solution. That is until I found this web-page by entering "restoring network neighborhood" into google. Here I entered the same search crteria and lo and behold:
Entering Client for MS Networks and choosing it as the primary network logon (all in Control Panel, Network) did in fact restore my Network Neighborhood. Actually it restored My Network Places since I use ME. Thanks a thousand times.
