Does Compaq have to have its own windows 95 disk or can I use a regular 95 disk to restore this computer

Compaq PC's use their own restore CD's that restore the operating system, the device drivers and any other software that may have come bundled with the computer. It it possible to load a Compaq with a copy of Windows from a Microsoft manufactured CD but you may have to download the video, sound or network drivers from compaq.com/support.

If you have a win95 cd you can easily reinstall. If it is an older compaq, just make sure you don't remove the partitions. Do a C: format and it should install as a regular computer. Recommendation-- check your device manager to see all your stuff eg video, sound, modem. Although windows picks up a lot of stuff, it is better if you have the drivers ahead of time.
Summary: Hi everyone, I saw this a few weeks back but I didn't save it. I need to know how to boot to a dos C prompt on a compaq computer. I found out F10 gets me into the bios. Thanks a lot, chopk ...
Summary: My neighbor has a Compaq Computer model 4712. Does anyone out there know how to get into the CMOS settings? Which key should I depress at bootup to access the setup?...
