I have a computer running Windows 95 and it hangs up on the logo screen. I can get to a DOS prompt. Can anybody tell me how I can restore the system.dat and user.dat files from system.da0 and User.da0 using DOS commands..

This may not actually help as Windows 95 will automatically restore the registry files from the system.da0 and user.da0 when the registry file become corrupt and won't load. I suspect you have another problem. Can you boot to SAFE MODE ?
However what you have to do in answer to your question is change the attributes of the system.da0 and user.da0 by using the DOS command "attrib" (so you can access the files in DOS)as follows
Change to the WIndows directory. Type attrib system.da0 -r -a -s -h
then type attrib user.da0 -r -a -s -h (in each case the -a is probably not necessary)
Then type ren system.da0 system.dat and the similar for user.da0. You will probably have to reset the attributes of system.dat and user.dat also and delete them so that the above works.
Now having said all that I don't actually think this will restore Windows as I think you have another problem.

Good luck !
E Mail me if you need more info I may be able to help - but then again ?? !!
