Depends on what you used to create the .qic
file.It is a backup file set (quarter inch cartidge). If you are using Win95 use Microsoft Backup to restore it.

I had a QIC file that I needed to get into. I'm running NT-W 4.0. I couldn't get into the file, MS Backup wouldn't work without a tape drive.

Turns out the file was created using MS Backup on a Win 95 PC. I had to find one. Backup is an optional install for Win 95, so I had to install it. Luckily the *.cab files were on the PC.

After it was installed it was pretty simple to run it and click the Restore tab, point it to the QIC (ignoring the message that says you don't have a tape drive), and you can take it from there.

It extracts the files to the same place they were in when the QIC was created (so you may be digging around the PC to find them).

I have the same problem as Mary above - Data is stored on CD-ROM - I have NO data about how the original backup was made though. I've been TOLD that it was made on and NT machine. The file is has a .QIC extension but that's all. and I NEED to find a way to get these files back. Reply to email would be greatly appreciated - many thanks! :)

I had ran backup from system tools of Win95. It turned out the last floppy disk I had used for the backup had bad sectors. I ran SCANDISK and repaired it, but it now reports Illegal access upon restoring the backup files. Since it took me 14 floppy disks for the backup, is there a way to restore files by individual disk?

Does anyone know how to enter a *.qic file (made with MS Backup)? I have a backup who's gonna wrong and i need to restore it. The MS Backup won't allow it because the file is partially corrupt. Zip, arj, and others can be accessed like a folder and some of the files can be restored. Could the same be done with QIC files?
Thanks

Windows backup opens qic. Actually it made the file. In my case the program file is ZIPWORK.QIC, which was an automatic backup of a downloaded program. I reinstalled Windows backup from my origional Windows disc and not the updated 2nd addition, thinking 2nd addition might have been changed. From Windows backup I restored qic. It was unpacked to a folder called zipwork. From there I have reinstalled my origional program.

I'm having similar problems. I completely backed up my primary harddrive to a partition on a second hdd using M$ Backup(Win95). Now I've installed Windows ME only to find that M$ Backup is no longer included (figures). How do I access the .QIC file without having to go back to Win95, 98? Any ideas anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Roelof
