Comment: Recently installed Windows 95 (a) and I am having a difficult time trying to find 16 bit windows 95 programs, like Word and Power Desk or another file manager program and a alarm clock program.
Can Win 3.11 programs just be used as a general rule or is there some tip that would let me know what would or wouldn't work on this system?

Reply: (edit)There's no general rule, some W31 progs work on W95 some don't. They are not normally "installed" but just put in place and the .exe file double clicked. Settings are saved into an ini file which can either be in the program folder or in c:\windows DerekW

Reply: (edit)There's really no hard & fast rule - some will require installation, or (at least) may require plunking the right DLLs and INI files in the appropriate places Lots of Win32 programs work on 95A (I still maintain my old machine and it has a slew) You just need to scout around, places like oldversion.com or 95is alive etc etc etc I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil. I simply suspect that if Microsoft ever met up with the devil, it wouldn't need an interpreter.

Reply: (edit)Lots of things do - there's rarely a reason to have to resort to Win31 apps, and several reasons not to (lack of long file or path name support is a big one) I'm not one of those who think Bill Gates is the devil.
