Problem: Computer will not remember my resolution settings. I change to 800x600x16 but it always boots to 640x480x256. Monitor and Graphics card both support the new settings. They just won't boot to that setting.
Any help or work around would be appreciated.
System Config:
IBM PS/1 Consultant
Turbochip 133 upgrade proc.
IBM 2113-001 monitor
Cirrus Logic GD-5424 rev.0 (not PNP compatible)Tried:
1. Reinstalling graphics adapter (no luck but I will say this: after I deleted the graphics adapter from the device listing my resolution did spontaneously change to 800x600x16, if that is any help)
2. Reinstalling Monitor
3. Registry entries are set for 800x600
4. Checked MSConfig for check box next to 640x480 (not checked)
5. Using different monitor types.
6. Filled in dialogue boxes under Network-> identification (read somewhere that that does cause windows to forget settings sometimes)Did Not Try:
1. Installing VDD.vxd or Vflatd.vxd (would this have an affect?)
2. Upgrading DirectX past whatever version comes with Win98SE
3. Standing on my head while singing "I'm a little teacup"
4. Sacrificing more money to the great Bill Gates God...If I don't hear from anyone soon I may have to resort to option 3 but please, please, don't make me resort to option 4.
Thanks one and all,
-Shannon

Correction to my last Post when I said:
5. Tried different Monitor Types.
I meant monitor .INF filesnot different monitors.
thanks

Did you try to hold a mirror to Bill Gates image to see if there was a reflection or maybe taking a photograph? With the continuing trends towards mergers, you never know. You may want to carry a crucifix to ground yourself against static fields when doing this.

have you tried setting the monitor size?
control panel/display/settings/advanced/monitor and change to SVGA 1024 x 768.

Oh Yes!!!! the problem is solved!
It was the BIOS setting. Which I had totally forgotten about. When Von Helsing said, "Did you try holding a mirror...." That made me think maybe it actually isn't a problem with windows and I'm going at the problem from the wrong angle.
Then when chappie mentioned SVGA it sparked a small memeory of something in the BIOS that was set to VGA. So I went over to the comp first I tried chappie suggestion and had no luck then when I got into the BIOS and set VGA to PS/1 Super VGA. Voila!
It worked!! Thanks to both of you.
I just wish I had read your posts before attempting option 3. Boy I'm still dizzy from all the blood rushing to my head :)
Thanks for the assistance...
-Shannon
