My internet page was not coming up, so I did this. I hit my start button and hit the run program. I typed in msconfig and punched ok, I then hit the general tab and created backup. Then I hit Diagnostic startup and hit ok. When the startup screen came on I hit step by step configuration. I said yes to everything, I was supposed to say no to Autoexec.bat and config.sys. When the computer restarted my resolution was all wierd. The icons were huge and the color was off. I tried to fix the resolution but it keeps going back to 16 colors and 640 by 840 pixels. What did I do?? How do I fix this??

Go back to msconfig, under 'advanced' and ensure that the 'VGA 640 x 480' box isn't ticked.

I'm not sure how msconfig would sort out a webpage problem

I'm not insensitive, I just don't care.

First off, when Windows restarted and looked 'all weird', are you sure it hadn't started in 'safe mode' (it would have the words SAFE MODE in each corner of the Desktop)? Safe Mode uses only the standard Windows VGA driver, not the hi-res driver supplied with the graphics card.

If you are sure it wasn't safe mode, go back to 'msconfig' and make sure it's set to 'Normal Startup' with all startup items ticked, then reboot.

If system.ini is disabled in msconfig, a default version will load that won't have support for your video drivers.

I don't know if that's what's happening with you 'diagnostic' boot up but it's something to check.
