Hi,

I want to resize an active disk partition (WIN98) to make a room for Linux without destroying the data. Is there a, preferably free, software that can be used for that purpose?

hi there,

just had the same problem, only i had an empty partition..
Your problem is to be solved with Partition Magic. check download.com, it may be there.
you can partition or resize them within windows9x.. only backup your stuff first!

btw don't get why people love linux. ok i don't like win98, but linux (suse 6.3) is even worse for beginners!!

Partition Magic is great, but far from being free... Linux utility fips might help you out, but I've never used it myself, so further research on your part is needed. Don't ignore backing up all of your important data…

As an alternative to fips (which I found tricky and problematic with fat32) you could try the freeware partitoner at: www.users.intercom.com/~ranish/part/
The online support at the homepage is good, and it supports partitioning without data loss and formatting for any OS within the same package.
