I have a computer that is running off of a hard disk i salvaged from another computer but now i need to put in a new disk which i have never done before. I have no problem with the connections or anything like that. But it is adding the Blank disk to the computer that worries me do i need to run win95 from the cd ro get it working?

Also i had to use the disk to transfer information (not the best way but the only way). I connected it as a slave disk but to get any computer to access the disk drive i needed to say it was a removable drive, and format the disk but was only given the option of a 8gig disk but my disk is 20gig now the computer only registers it as a 8gig how do i get it to format it to a 20gig?? And how do i get it to use the disk as a non-removable disk.

This is my main problem is the size. Then the removeable disk problem which im sure will be ok when i make it my primary disk.

thank you for any help you can give

Graham

The 8GB is the maximum that your BIOS can recognise. If you got a utilities floppy with the hard drive, use the overlay utility to force the BIOS to recognise the 20GB. If you did not get the floppy, download it from the drive manufacturer`s web site.

You can also check to see if your computer manufacturer has a BIOS update (aka BIOS flash) which will remove the 8 GB barrier you curently face. Then you don't need the overlay software. Given the option, I prefer avoiding overlay software.
