Safe experiment?: Remove all Ram chips( or CPU )to deliberately test if I can generate error beeps at startup--am not getting even a single beep but otherwise no problems.---See post #40870.--Speaker is known to be good!
Or...can you suggest other Diagnostic OR ISOLATION TECHNIQUES?

Of course, it depends on the BIOS software you're using, but I wouldn't expect beeps simply because there isn't any RAM memory installed. Here's why:
1 beep Refresh failure
2 beeps Parity error
3 beeps Base 64K memory failure
4 beeps Timer not operational
5 beeps Processor error
6 beeps 8042 - gate A20 failure
7 beeps Processor exception interrupt error
8 beeps Display memory read/write failure
9 beeps ROM checksum error
10 beeps CMOS shutdown register read/write error
11 beeps Cache memory badHere's a list of problems that can cause beeping. As you can see, a lack of RAM isn't on the list. Bad parity found in RAM is a beepable problem but with no RAM, there can't be parity problems. Base 64k memory is usually on-board these days. So there would not be a reason to beep.

Wow!--what an informative reply--thanks,Preston--still wondering why I no longer get the single beep i used to get...but haven't absorbed your reply.

That list of beeps corresponding to system problems in the BIOS is only for Genuine IBM configured BIOS's. There are also Pheonix, AMI, and award. For diagnostic, I check what number the computer spits out at you right when it starts up. Here is the basic idea:
Number(X=more digits) What it means
--------------------------------------------
02x Power Supply
1xx Motherboard
2xx Memory(RAM)
3xx Keyboard
4xx Old Monochrome video
5xx *Color Video card
6xx Floppy Drive
7xx Math Coprocessor
9xx Printer Port
10xx Printer Port
11xx Serial Port
12xx Serial Port
13xx Game Card
17xx Hard Drive (HDD)Some of these numbers are obsolete now, who still has a monochrome video...Do monitors still do that???
Good Luck-Dean, 16

Thanks to Dean,also ,for clarifying
---can anyone suggest why i get no beep at all when I used to get One beep! (even tho no problems I know of.)
Maybe my New BIOS upgrade may not have even a single beep???

as the old saying goes "if it aint broke, don't fix it!" if it starts up fine then you have nothing to worry about.
but, its probably a faulty internal speaker.
