I need to find a way to hide or remove completely the "my computer" icon from the desktop. Having hacker problems with my network, they are accessing the network drives through "My Computer" Policy editor does not provide enough security, so I need to hide or remove it

right click the desktop and select Active Desktop>View As Web Page. right click the desktop again and select Properties. on the Effects tab, check the box that says "Hide icons when the desktop is viewed as a web page". don't know if this will keep the hackers out, but it's worth a shot.

If your having problems with hackers and your on a network, it would seem that you would be using a good firewall software. If your not i would advise you to do so.

If you are Registry-wise you could change the My Computer icon path [or whatever name you may have it] to explorer.exe,4 which is an icon with nothing, if you use the desktop update that ver of explorer.exe does not have this icon. If you have an icon editor you can make one and change the path to that. As for the name you could just put a comma [,] but the background will still be there unless you use a program [can't think of it's name] that makes the background invisible. There may also be other programs that could do exactly what you want but no guarentee that a hacker won't find it again.
