I have a Fujitsu M1606TAU 1Gb IDE hard disk drive that contains a Fujitsu Dynamic Drive Overlay V8.02 made by Ontrack Data International, inc. and I want to remove it.

Faustino Jun Marcelo, a Senior Technical Product Support person at Fujitsu Australia Ltd has e-mailed me to say "Sorry, we don't have an erase program for that HDD model # M1606TAU 1Gb capacity. There are some third party low-level formatter in the market, please have a look on the net".

Does anyone out there know what he is referring to, and if so, could they please advise me what it is and how I can get hold of this program?

Thanks in advance to the kind sole)s) who can help me.

Greg Graham.

This isn't my area of expertise but since no one else has replied to your message, I'll give it a go.

The drive overlays control the boot up part of the hard drive. Another name for this is the master boot record (mbr).

In some instances, drive overlays can be removed by running the fdisk program using the following extension:

fdisk /mbr

I'd suggest you search the web for fdisk help and research what the /mbr command will do for you.

Just turned the Cape of Good Hope when I heard yar plea matey!

Go back to the lying swabbies an search their place for a download called "Fijitsu DiskGo".

Dig deep matey cos the proggie got a utility that can overwrite yar hard disk - all of it! - with zeros. It's the only effective method to clear a hard disk of DDO. Just remember that it removes info permanently. Yar can't recover it - period.

It's customised from OnTrack's DiskGo an is only for Fijitsu drives - Quantum got a version too an WD got Lifeguard. All do the similar things - just on their own drives.

Shit - gotta go - Trade Winds coming up !

Back soon matey
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
