Have you tried right-clicking on it and selecting Delete?

G'day Dave, try this location in the registry

Hkey_Local_Machine
.+ Software
..+ Microsoft
...+ Windows
....+ CurrentVersion
.....+ explorer
......+ Desktop
.......+ Namespace
........- {BIGLONGBLOODYNUMBER} -> "program"

and check what each of those CLSID numbers say they are and you should be able to delete it. If not there try this one as well further down the tree.

......+ mycomputer
.......+ Namespace
........- {BIGLONGBLOODYNUMBER}

This will not remove the Outlook Express program, just that icon. Always backup [export] any key you are about to delete, just in case. If you want it back use a shortcut instead.

There might be an easier method but i used tweakui the microsoft site

desktop tab has an option to remove icons.
