Right Click on the desktop icon and then select delete.

For the quick launch, I think?

Go to Start > Run > type msconfig > OK then under start up tab uncheck the checkbox that relates to IE.

Msconfig?

QL shortcuts can be deleted using the r-click menu as well.

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience

As said, QuickLauch just use right click delete.

For the IE icon, go to Control Panel/Internet Options/Advanced.

Under Browsing, untick the item:
"Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"

Merge this reg file and the ie desktop icon should go away. Right click and delete any QuickLaunch icons you want.

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\CLASSES\CLSID\{871C5380-42A0-1069-A2EA-08002B30309D}\ShellFolder]
"Attributes"=dword:00100024

The show ie desktop icon value is
"Attributes"=dword:00000024

If you are looking to completely remove IE (and / or any other "OS components" that you no longer use), you may want to take a look at 98lite. You will notice a fairly significant increase in overall performance, as well as cut down on boot times. If you later find that you need IE back for any reason, you can always download a standalone version of IE.

If your intent was only to remove shortcuts to the program, while leaving the actual program installed and intact, then the previous suggestions in this thread will be more than sufficient for this task.
