Hi, I'm trying to prevent from buying a new machine with the lastest OS just to get Remote Desktop Client.

Is there a way to install that on a windows 98 machine? If so, is it a free software and where do I find it?

I'm using windows 98(home) to log on to my XP machine (work).

There's a program available for Win2K, but I don't know if it works on 98. Very doubtful. The filename is MSRDPCLI.exe, and it's available for download from MS's site.

Dunno, never used it...

I put "remote desktop W98" in Google and there were a few hits. This is extracted fom one of them:

"If you don't have XP Pro, you can still have remote desktop. It's been built into windows since W98. NetMeeting supports a remote desktop server and client that work just fine. To install do start->run->conf then follow the instructions. Once in, use tools to setup remote dektop server, right click on the resulting systray icon then enable remote desktop server."

Hi rsn000, Jennifer, Derek, M2, hi everyone

I have successfully used the program as provided in M2's M$ link on a Win98 PC (my good old dinosaur) to remotely connect to a WinXP Pro machines desktop.
Remote Desktop connection must be enabled on the remote WinXP Pro computer.

You can also try RealVNC, also free, in the event that the WinXP box has a home version installed. Personally I am quiet happy about it and still running version 3.37 to connect to remote desktops all over the world as needed by request/invitation, thus with user/client permission of course.
RealVNC Server must be running, as a service, on the to be remotely connected computer.
