How to use remote assistance in Windows XP

"Windows XP allows to send a request for assistance to another Windows XP system"

Why don't they make computers that will do what we think we want them to do?

"Remote Assistance is not available on Win98. You can use other remote desktop programs such as TightVNC (www.tightvnc.com, it'sfree) or Symantec PcAnywhere"

I see nothing there to quantify a "smart remark". You keep insisting it's available for 98 and it's from Microsoft, so why ~don't~ you search there?

Did you look at Microsoft?

Have you tried Google?

Or do I have to spell it out for you?

Chris, really, you need to stop behaving like such a defensive & boorish child here @Computing.Net

You're always posting ill conceived questions, and , when invariably you don't receive the answer you want to hear, you start whining and complaining.

Here's a good example

"Im not going to learn anyhting by that" & "im not dumb"

That remains to be seen - the link provided originally states:

"This is similar to the "Remote Desktop", only available in Windows XP Professional, but while "Remote Desktop" allows to connect to a host-computer without any user action on the host system, Remote Assistance requires a user to be present to accept an incoming connection."

The Remote Desktop for 98 package can be found here (courtesy of Rimfire)

From: Langa Letter: XP Professional's "Remote Control" Option Feb. 24, 2003"

Quote (excerpt)
It's one of XP Pro's hidden gems: A simple way to control your PC from afar. It lets you do everything from basic file and data access up to fully taking over the keyboard and mouse of a distant PC, just as if you were sitting in front of it. What's more, XP extends this remote-control ability to any and all versions of Windows back to Win95, including Windows CE palm-top systems.
End of excepted quote

Of course this is with XP Pro and not the Home edition.

Maybe you are thinking of HyperTerminal or Telnet where you can remotely log in. I don't believe you sit around and figure it out. Probably best you do some research first.

No kidding.

In the referenced post (from 2 years ago!), SciGuy observed:

"I seem to recall reading on this forum recently, a post by ChristopherTGarrett about people being banned from posting here. Justin replied to the post, saying that ChristopherTGarrett had been banned and had somehow gotten past the system. From the aggressive nature of his posts, I'd say his time is nigh."

To which our plucky Mr. Garrett replied:

"Please forget about my attitude.Ive just have had a bad wek.And as far as me being banned.Justin unbanned me before.I didn't evem know i was banned before i have a floating ip number."

Clearly Justin relented far too soon.

Some folks never seem to learn.

Perhaps you haven't. But, you might consider that in the last two days that you've identified a 2" long brown slot on a motherboard as "AGP" and told us all that IE6 will not work on Win9x.

You might just want to unplug your keyboard for awhile and allow your brain to catch up.

I just skip by his posts now. His history demonstrates it's not worth the time.

I'm still waiting for my IE6 to crash my 98SE. Been a couple of years now so it ~has~ to happen soon. I saw that yesterday? and was going to add to the post, but then I regained my senses.

M2Go - no, I can't say that I've ever tried it, but it certainly does look worthwhile. One of the many benefits from participating @Computing.Net is discovering new links while trawling the web for answers - so, despite the fact that trying to help the OP is by and large a complete waste of time, the process itself isn't.

Hey Dan Penny. Oh yeah, we get all sorts of aberrant types here - some asking questions, some 'answering' them (or both, as in this case). About the only thing that can be gained by reading his many mangled messages is a glimpse into the workings of a troubled mind.

I believe the psychological term is 'meathead'

Kind of sad really - it's the same thing over and over - the sap snots off at everyone, spouts a load of BS and when finally presented with accurate information offers up a fake apology, as in this recent post:

"What do i need help with? And i agree sometimes i have a attitude. Sometimes thats what it takes to get what i want done."

The fact that folks continue to try and help this deluded miscreant despite his manipulative and craven behaviour is a testament to the good nature of the majority of contributers here. Clearly he's abusing that good nature - and brazenly so. Would to God that it were up to me to ban this sorry sack of.... sand - it'd happen in a heartbeat.

I stopped by this post to see how many feathers you were ruffling. Indeed, I couldn't resist asking you to go elsewhere.

The time of the postings depends upon what geographical location you are in. If I ~did~ have it wrong it shows how much I care about it.

Yeah, my brain is definitely behind yours, as yours is *way* out there. I guess I can't compete with a guru such as yourself. (Sigh)

The other jewel today was as I was looking for info about PCMCIA in DOS, somebody posted a link to DOS PCMCIA drivers.

The OP seems to have such a disorganised mind that he is incapable of trying such well publicised methods.

Im going to try and be nicer this comeing year ok? I really don't mean anyhting by the remarks i make. And i misunderstood about the 2" brown slot i have a old celeron 433 slot 1 with a AGP and its a brown slot. I just got confused on that. Oh and about the XP sp2 post. I still don't use XP sp2 not just because of the bootscreen. I don't like the pop up feature in XP Sp2. If i need to go to Gateway site and get tech support thru there online chat sp2 pop up blocker goese crazy Also the updates on McAfee sometimes want work. And there are other reasons i don't use Sp 2. One day it kelp telling me i had no Antivirus program and i do. Now any more questions? Merry Christmas to you all Dan Penny also. In this thread that honour goes to you, the Original Poster.

Your sorry excuses don't really count for much - you have a hundred other posts little different than the two dredged up here - let's see if you can actually pull off some decent behaviour.

It'll be quite refreshing. People may forgive, they seldom forget.
